A decade into wearing her heart on her sleeve, “Nostalgia, USA” is where you can currently find Gin Mason. Trying her best to forget the co-star in her barely-there love affair, she recalls the highs, lows, and lessons of this chapter. Reminiscing on when lust and trust moved her to hit send on “Nudes,” though questioning ‘are you mine?’
Naturally, Miss Mood Swings moves from almost completely in love to jaded, as she reaches reality in “No (Mood 1)”. By the time she arrives at “No (Mood 2)” it’s clear that she’s is getting less than she deserves. She faces acceptance that she’s been “Naive” and needs to face what’s in front of her. Finally, after repeatedly looking back and going backward, “No Hitta (Pro)” is the final stop on her trip where she trades what could have been for what is.

Originally from Boston, with parents from Dominica, she learned music through self exploration. Inspired by her island upbringing and east coast life, she wrote her first song at eight years old. She credits Eve, Missy Elliot, Lauryn Hill, R&B girl groups and her mother’s shared favorite, Roberta Flack. She sang in a youth choir before debuting rap verses with a 90s hip-hop cover band throughout college. Her debut, a soulful ballad titled My Fault, she describes as “by all means a bad gyal/sad gyal anthem.” Using her writing to cope with heartbreak and navigate womanhood she shares, “I've been able to save my own life with my music. I write in a way that makes me feel free, I try not to worry about how it could possibly be misinterpreted.”
